About Us

Our History

The Coogee Legion Club dates back to the early days in 1946 where a group of dedicated and active Sub-Branch members under the leadership of the first Sub-Branch President, Mr Bert Ash purchased the land and premises where the Club stands today, albeit at the time was a single floor dwelling. The Club was fortunate enough in those days to have a dedicated group of Ladies Auxiliary who tirelessly fundraised with bingo, Saturday night dances and functions with all proceeds benefiting the building of the Club.

The Coogee Legion Club was finally Incorporated in 1950 by the then Governor of New South Wales, Sir John Northcott who proudly opened the Club. The Club went from strength to strength by engaging in competitions, both internally and through inter Club events in numerous sporting activities such as bowls, billiards, snooker, shuttle cock, euchre, table tennis to name a few and the Sports Committee also looked after our Golf Club and cricket matches with other Clubs. Not to forget the Sunday morning Concerts that had Members & Guests queuing up Coogee Bay Road, waiting for the Club to open.

The aim of the Club was then and still is today, to maintain a venue that provides exceptional service to its patrons, both Service and Ex-Service Men & Women. The Club has since developed into the social hub of the area. With approximately 6,000 members who enjoy social and recreational activities. The Club has become very focused on supporting its local community and sporting teams but has always maintained its Australian Defence Force roots.

Today the Club houses two VIP lounges, bars, a restaurant, function facilities, and an open-air terrace overlooking Coogee Beach. It provides these services to its members, their guests and visitors. The Coogee Legion Club prides itself on looking after its patrons and today’s customer service offerings are reflective of that.

Coogee Legion Club is an exciting place to work and proudly supports staff and the community. We hope that your time with the Club will replicate the culture and exceptional customer service levels that are the trademark of our founding Members.
